Pauline Stewart, the Web Administrator for Rotary District 9780, was the special guest speaker at the Port Fairy Rotary Club's Dinner on 24th September.  She spoke about the benefits of clubs using the ClubRunner system as both a website and club administration tool for all Rotary Clubs.
Pauline was invited to Port Fairy to demonstrate to members some of the important features of ClubRunner and to provide a brief tutorial on how to login to ClubRunner, how to edit a member profile and how to use some of the basic features of ClubRunner like the Email Message Centre and the Club Directory.

Pauline is the Web Administrator for District 9780, with a primary role of looking after the District website.  However, her role extends to providing occasional training and promotional talks on the virtues of ClubRunner which she does with infinite enthusiasm.

Her other major role in Rotary is the important task of chairing the District Public Relations Committee and she began her talk about the need for all Rotary clubs to continually promote what Rotary does and to inform the public about all the good work that we as Rotarians do in the local community and for national and international aid programs.  In this regard, Pauline is a strong advocate for using social media, like Facebook and Twitter, as a means of connecting with a wider audience and as a valuable and powerful vehicle for communication with the public - something that Rotarians often overlook.

ImagePauline was accompanied on her visit to Port Fairy by her husband, and fellow Rotarian, Tony Stewart, who also addressed members on the night about the recent launch of "Rotary Radio", an initiative of current District Governor, Helen Trigg.

Rotary Radio
is an hour-long program, broadcast each Tuesday from 12 noon to 1pm, which emanates from community radio station 94.7 FM in Geelong with albeit limited coverage to the Geelong and Bellarine region.  However, he explained that the weekly program is also streamed online, via the Internet, and therefore accessible to anyone with computer access irrespective of their location.

The Internet streaming facility is complemented by all programs being stored and made available as a downloadable "Podcast" for listening at any time.  It is therefore a great medium for all Rotarians in the District, and beyond, to learn about Rotary projects and topics of the day.  Members wanting to find details on Rotary Radio can access it from the District 9780 website at http://www.clubrunner.ca/portal/home.aspx?did=9780.

Tony encouraged the Port Fairy Club to become engaged with the weekly radio program and to use it to promote important club activities.  On-air interviews can be conducted by telephone at no cost to Club or the need to travel to the Geelong-based studio.

In her presentation on the use of ClubRunner, Pauline praised the considerable content on, and layout of, the Port Fairy Rotary Club's website but noted that only about one third of members were actively logging into the site each month.  She therefore encourage all members who had Internet access to use it more often  - both as a source of general Club information, which forms part of the "public face" of the Rotary Club of Port Fairy and therefore viewable by the general public, but also a means of accessing "member only" data, a means of volunteering online for Club events and as a general intra-club communication tool.

She was delighted to discover that Port Fairy uses about 95% of the available functionality of ClubRunner but this was only of benefit if members used it regularly.  She challenged the members to raise the number of active (unique) logins to an average of 20 in the coming months.  If this was achieved then she felt her visit to Port Fairy would have been beneficial.

On behalf of the Club, John Clue thanked both Pauline and Tony for the trouble they took to visit us and for their informative sessions.
