The Rotary Club of Port Fairy was the beneficiary of the 2012 Port Fairy Police Charity Golf Day with profit from the day going to the Rotary House project.

Despite a busy weekend helping at the Rotary District 9780 Conference, held in Warrnambool over the weekend, Rotarians were out in force at the Port Fairy Golf Club from 8.30am to 9pm helping out with a multitude of tasks including setting up the course, marshalling around the course during the competition and the all important task of feeding the golfers from mid-morning until late afternoon with a BBQ feast.
Bernie Waixel and John EllardAfter a terrific evening meal prepared by the local Red Cross team, the organising team gone on with the all important task of awarding of golf prizes to the winning teams, the drawing of the all important raffles and the auction of special prizes, commenced in earnest to a very happy and boisterous crowd. The winning team was led by Port Fairy stalwart, Neil Duncan, who were runaway winners with a net 52 points. Neil willingly donned the gold jacket to celebrate the occasion!

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of a cheque to Port Fairy Rotary Club President, John Ellard and Rotary organiser, Bernie Waixel which eventually saw a whopping $12,000 donated to the Rotary House Project.  This was a result beyond the Club's expectations and John Ellard thanked the organisers and the golfers for their fantastic and generous support of this worthy cause.

Although the picture of John and Bernie depicts a mock cheque for $11,000 the final amount, contained in the real cheque presented to the Rotary Club on the 23rd April, increased the original estimate by $1,000 to $12,000 which was greatly appreciated by all members and is a fantastic contribution that will go directly to the Rotary House Project.

The Police Charity Golf Day was organised by Senior Sergeant Mick Wolfe, ably assisted by Leading Senior Constable Greg Creek together with Alan, Glenn, Pauline and other, fellow police officers from the Port Fairy Police Station. The Charity Golf Day is an annual event that has delivered a good deal of funds to worthwhile recipient organisations over many years.  The Rotary Club is grateful for the support that this year's event will bring to the Rotary House project.

The Charity Golf Day is supported by a wealth of sponsors / supporters who donate goods and other services for the raffles and auctions used to generate the overall funds.  Rotary acknowledges the fantastic support of these individuals and businesses that contribute so much to the success of the day - not just this year - but in past years and a tradition that will hopefully be maintained for future events.
