Rotary at the Yambuk CemeteryEleven members of the Rotary Club of Port Fairy, in conjunction with the Yambuk Cemetery Trust, held a working bee to assist with clear up the Yambuk Cemetery in November 2011.

The workers removed grass and weeds, sometimes up to 60cm high, to help leave the cemetery a much tidier place for visitors.  The team used a variety of tools - whipper-snippers, rakes, shovels, mattocks to clear the vegetation around the 150+ graves at the Cemetery.

A slide show on this working bee can be viewed in the photo gallery.  Click here to view the photos.

Jim Robinson & Reg Beatie contemplate their good work!Rotarian, Brian Atkins, worked tirelessly during the three hours that the Rotary team were present using his ride-on mower to help reduce grass in the wider areas.  Others just toiled away with various tools to clear up around the headstones.

It was a tiring but rewarding day but one that only left us knowing that there was still much work to be done to get it to a presentable form.  Nevertheless, the end result was that the cemetery is a much more friendly place for visitors and one where the snakes have less places to hide!

It is planned that future working bees and the discriminate spraying with RoundUp will help keep the cemetery presentable.

At the end of the day all workers were treated to a BQQ lunch by organiser, local policeman and Moyne Shire Councillor, Mick Wolfe.  The work by the visiting Rotarians was very much appreciated by those from the Yambuk Cemetery Trust.
