As part of its community engagement, the Rotary Club of Port Fairy has received permission from the Moyne Shire Council to "adopt" the road into Port Fairy that runs past the local golf links.

The proposal by the Club is to maintain the general cleanliness and appearance of the roadside by occasionally removing rubbish and weeds from the grass verges from around Connolly Street to where Woodbine Road meets  the highway.

ImageInitially, the Club had intentions of looking after the Princes Highway from Rosebrook Bridge to Port Fairy but this was too large an undertaking.

As the Club had been previously engaged to plant trees along the Golf club road (covering Griffith Street through Skenes Road to Woodbine Road) and has subsequently tended the trees and removed weeds from around them, it was a natural extension to include the general clean-up of the roadside verge in our efforts.

The Golf Club road is an alternative route into Port Fairy and one that carries a good deal of traffic.  The Club plans to extend the current Rotary sign, erected to mark our tree-planting project, to include the additional responsibility.

It is expected that the Club will hold three to four working bees in each 12 month period.
