In Rotary Year 2010-2011, the then Club President, Neville Suter, set a goal of collecting small change throughout the year to help stop child hunger.  From the Club's efforts, we raised almost $500 in cash.

Treasurer, Derek Southey, reports on how the money will be used.

PP Neville Suter promotes the Club's goal to help stop child hungerAs you are all aware PP Neville Suter instigated a project for the collection of small change for donation to a group approved by Rotary International i.e. Stop Hunger Now  (www.stophungernow.org ). We are currently waiting for this organization to advise the best method for Port Fairy Rotary to send our donation of $500.00.

With reference to the above web site the following information is worth noting:
  • Stop Hunger Now is a Raleigh-based international hunger relief agency that has been fulfilling its commitment to end hunger for more than 13 years.
  • Since 1998 the organization has coordinated the distribution of food and other lifesaving aid to children and families in countries all over the world.
  • Stop Hunger Now launched its meal packaging program in 2005.
  • The program perfected the assembly process that combines rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and a flavouring mix including 21 essential vitamins and minerals into small meal packets. Each meal costs only 25 cents. The food stores easily, has a shelf life of five years and transports quickly.
 Some statistics.....
  •            268,348 Meals packaged this week
  •             48,213,956 total meals packaged
  •             76 countries served
Based upon this the Rotary Club of Port Fairy's donation would equate to 2,000 meals.
