This week the Rotary Club of Port Fairy was addressed by two young women on their involvement in Rotary programs.  Our 2018 Youth Exchange participant, Lisa van Someren, reported on her recent experience in the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA).  The RYLA program is aimed at developing leadership potential for young adults and its approach emphasises participation, fun and a high level of interactive learning.

Lisa was followed with a talk by Destiny Kelly who is our Youth Exchange candidate for 2020.  Destiny had just attended the program's first preparatory weekend at Halls Gap.

Lisa reported on the six-day RYLA Seminar held at Kangaroobie near Princetown.  The program included sessions on values and goal setting, motivation, and public speaking.  There was also lots of fun with outdoor activities and the Seminar concluded with the presentation dinner and concert on the last day.  The program was attended by 38 people aged from 18 to 25.  Lisa described the week as amazing and said she learned a lot from the experience.

Destiny Kelly presented a rerun of the talk she gave to the Youth Exchange gathering at Halls Gap. She described her life and family, hobbies, sports, likes and dislikes and expressed her desire to continue her travel adventures.  She met many people at Halls Gap and appreciated listening to the inbound students talk about their country visits. Team building activities were a central part of the weekend’s activities.
